Christopher,
Good points but I guess I would take issue with the definition of
unacceptable. It's perfectly acceptable - in my opinion. To be sure, it's
annoying - if you let it be. Yes, companies are moving excess S&H money to
their bottom line. Is that wrong? I guess I can't really argue that it is.
As long as the buyer calculates S&H as part of the total then decide on the
value of the purchase they're about to make, what difference does it make
whether S&H money is profit?
It isn't necessarily wrong that they charge whatever the market will bear
and pocket some of it. It may not be the way I'd do business if it were me
but, then, that's probably why I'm not in business for myself.
Now, being irate that an item doesn't arrive as advertised - that's
understandable. But quibbling over what wind's up being maybe $5 - $10 in a
$140 - $200 purchase? It just doesn't seem very productive to me. I mean,
for heaven's sake we want these guys to be in business to keep recycling our
precious Newtons, don't we? And they have to make a profit to stay in
business. So what's an extra couple bucks?
Just my 2 cents,
