Just got my MP 2100 from PhillyDiscounters. I've been very concerned,
given the posts to the list in the last few days. (Of course, the posts
started AFTER I won the auction.)
Here's what I got--front and sides of case are fine; back has a very
nasty scuff mark (looks like something was glued on and somebody took a
sander to it to get it off). The screen does not have any scratches
(other than extremely minor hairline scratches that you have to look
very close to find), but it does have a very nasty indentation right
over the "Undo" button--obviously, a previous owner got angry and
"punched" it with the stylus. The door is fine, but the clip on back
don't want to hold it--that's less of an annoyance than I originally
thought. It's too soon to tell, but I think the battery is going to
hold a charge, but if it doesn't, that's okay--the battery was sold
as-is.
I won a case in a separate auction from them. The case is in very nice
shape, and they agreed to ship both together, which takes some of the
edge of the $14.99 shipping charge for a little bubblewrap and a USPS
Priority Mail package ($6.45 in postage).
My biggest complaints are (obviously) the dimple on the screen (their
description said "no scratches," so I guess they're technically in the
right and I can live with it) and their dishonesty about shipping--not
the shipping cost (I agree with Chris and others--you agree to the terms
when you hit "bid") but the fact that I won the auction last Tuesday,
paid by PayPal from a verified account on Wednesday, e-mailed them on
Thursday asking when the item would be shipped, received an e-mail on
Thursday from "Tina" that it would be shipped on Friday, and the
postmark is April 8 (Monday). These folks do a LOT of business on eBay;
I find it hard to believe that they don't ship everyday. (In fact,
overcharging on shipping might even be justifiable if you did go out of
your way to make sure that the item shipped immediately upon payment.)
Certainly, there's no reason to tell a customer that an item will ship
on Friday when it's not actually going to ship until Monday.
I know the delay doesn't seem like much (though it was aggravated by
reading all of the negative PhillyDiscounters/Variety Shop posts ;) ).
Still, I work for a non-profit that publishes a magazine and sells a
variety of books and such, and we mail our items when we say we will.
We also charge shipping AND handling, which may not reflect the amount
of postage on a package, but we do try to come close.
