Today I tried the whole thing of installation and use of NCU on a recent
WinDOS machine (ca. 1GHz). Installation went fine and the Newton could
connect w/o much problems, except that it insisted on 9600,8,N,1 (yarn...).
Upon starting anything I quickly got error -1 which is sort of normal. I
searched then for slowdown.exe, found, installed and started it but NCU
didn't work. Only as I started the 3rd (!!!) instance of slowdown I could do
everything and the computer became then visibly slow. TaskManager showed
about 99% processor load (2 instances only 80%) and upon NCU export the
processor load went up to 100%. The most surprising thing was that my wife
was happy that she could export Dates, Names, Notes and Works files as .CSV
and .RTF files and work with them in the Office programs. She may get a
Palmtoy from her employer but she self decided to keep the Newton. What a
day... the unexpected happend! Just yesterday I said her that synchronizing
Palm and PEECEE is much easier than with Newton but she likes the large
screen :-)
