My ATM (debit) card has no credit card affiliation. And a PIN must be
used for ALL transactions.

There's almost nowhere without this function now ... at least in the
areas I frequent. Fast food places, corner stores, gas stations all have
debit machinery.
I traveled across eastern Canada (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and
Nova Scotia) last summer and used debit card all the way (gas, hotels, food
etc.). I think the only places I used cash on the trip east were to buy
coffee from a vendor at a rest stop along highway 20 in Quebec, and for the
toll highway in Nova Scotia.
