How about the Lotus Elise? ~130 HP rover K series engine. Car weighs around
1500-1600 lbs or so. I don't know the exact top speed, but ive seen video of
one chasing a Ferrari F40 around a racetrack in europe. And not getting left
too far behind.
The Sun international version of the Elise is even better. They swap a 200+
HP Honda 1.8L I4 in there and its VERY fast.
