I apologize for the re-post, but I found something else I wanted to toss
in. Hopefully you guys won't hate me too much for this. :)
I also have the 386-page Apple MessagePad Handbook copyright 1996 in
decent shape that goes with the 130, for NOS 2.0. It's only been opened
once or twice, there's no creasing on the spine, but there is some wear
at the corners and a couple wrinkled spots here and there. As with the
rest of this stuff, give me an offer if you'd like to purchase it
separately... otherwise, I'll include it for whoever buys the unit
itself. The address on the back is really neat: "Apple Computer, Inc.
/ 1 Infinite Loop / Cupertino, California 95014-2084" And it's got a
phone number, too. I haven't tried calling it yet. :)
In addition to the burned AMUG CD, I'll also burn a copy of the software
CD I got with my UMP2000. It's got a lot of books and other good items
on it.
-----Original Message-----
Allright. Since I've got my UMP2000 now and I am in love with it, I no
longer need my Messagepad 130, so I'm hoping to get a bit of money for
it. I'm offering it to the Newtontalk list first before it goes up on
E-bay. I'm not really looking to split any of this up but if I get good
offers I might. Make offers or requests for pictures at
chaosmonk_at_earthlink.net, please--I might miss them if they're put up on
the list. Read to the bottom of this post carefully, as it has a couple
problems.
Includes:
-Original Apple 7.0v/0.5A AC Adapter (model H1300)
-Newton 110-130 Charging Station (charges your Newton and a second
battery pack at the same time, and has a hole to stand your stylus in. I
have the stick-type original Apple stylus that came with this, too, but
I'm not sure where it is. If I find it I'll toss it in)
-Two rechargeable 4AA genuine Apple Newton battery packs, both of which
hold charge (one seems to hold a bit less than the other, but the other
is quite good)
-Original Apple pop-out heavy plastic/metal stylus in near-perfect
condition, no cracks
-Unused Apple Serial -> Newton cable (8-pin circular to 9-pin serial)
-Unused Apple DB9 -> DB25 serial adapter (9 pin to 25 pin)
-Unused Apple 8-pin -> 8-pin cable (Newton to Mac, or Newton to Newton?)
-Two leather zip-up cases, both with the Newton lightbulb insignia on
them so I believe them to be genuine Apple as well:
-One portfolio-style with pockets for 4 PCMCIA cards, 4 credit cards,
and a clear ID window. BEAUTIFUL case.
-One slide-in style, leather exterior/nylon interior with space for 2
PCMCIA cards inside and a small pocket outside
-Original Newton PCMCIA slide-in slot protector
-Original Apple 2MB Newton Flash Memory Card (silver)
-Megahertz 14.4kbps fax/modem PCMCIA X-Jack card
-Burned CD copy of AMUG Volume #11 Newton software
I also have one of those little Apple battery chargers that looks like
it might only hold 2 AA-size batteries. I think it was meant for the
OMP/H1000, but I have no idea. This I'll sell separately of course,
since it doesn't really go with the MP130. Again, make me an offer.
The Newton 130's screen is in perfect, pristine condition, with no
scratches or nicks. The casing itself has a couple tiny scuffs near the
bottom, but otherwise is in near-perfect condition. Nothing is broken.
The 130 also still has its flip-top screen cover, uncracked, also in
near-perfect condition (only a couple near-invisible scratches on the
outside). The power switch is nice and stiff (almost annoyingly so).
Now, for the bad news. The 130 has a power problem by which if it's
jostled the right way, the power will cut out and it may need to be
jostled a bit again before you can turn it back on. When it does come
back on, the system treats the incident as a reboot "because power was
interrupted". I don't know how to fix this.
Also, the backlight will not turn on. I know the backlight is
functional and still quite bright; however, a friend of mine pulled the
unit apart to try and fix the power interruption issue and couldn't
figure out what was wrong with it; and when he put it back together, the
backlight no longer worked. I don't know how to fix this either. He
tinkers with Newtons of his own, so he does know how to take them apart.
I have no idea how it happened. Neither does he.
Anyways, make me offers that I can consider. Aside from the
aforementioned problems, the 130 works perfectly. No jaggies, no
nothing. I understand I probably won't get too much because of the
backlight / power issues, but I figured it was worth a try. I won't be
using it any longer and maybe one of you guys can fix it and get some
use out of it. It lasted me a long time. :-)
