Sometimes works out that way. My old car was a 15-year-old VW that my
brother gave me. It would have been cheaper to get another car than to
change the oil (almost).
Likewise, I just bought a Canon BJ 2600 (I think) at a lawn sale for $5 with
a fresh ink cartridge. Much cheaper than buying a cartridge.

Sorry to get O/T, but sometimes it IS cheaper to overbuy and then get rid of
the part you don't need.
