The system software and a few built-in apps are in ROM, so you can never
erased them. What you lose is any app you did specifically install and all
your data. So, do a backup before if you have anything to save. Know that if
you backup your data that you might restore the problem if there is
something corrupted. At the very least, don't restore the system
information.
And a brainwipe or hard reset would certainly help with your problem, unless
it's a hardware problem.
