    That's the misterious "newton internal connector" :-)

    There are two serial ports available there, plus (not confirmed) audio
and power pins.

    Nope, the pinout is different and the signals don't have the levels
needed to be useful. That's what the SER-001 does, add an appletalk driver
chip. The document describing this connector is not available as far as I
know.
