MIDIX allows you to send XG MIDI commands to an appropriate synthesizer,
linked via the serial port.
And I don't think writing a native MIDI player for the Newton would be easy
at all. Since the Newton has no built-in synth capabilities (besides
DTMF tones), it would have to be written entirely in software: generating
the tones, mixing them into one channel, and then outputting the sound.

tried that and after looking trhought the archives i found it doesnt
play midi files in the same sense quicktime plays mp3s, but can anyone
explain to me what it *does* do, im mildly confused.
i also found out that midi files are possible and would be relatively
easy for someone to write a program for, but noone has. yet.
