I am sorry to hear it doesn't work for you, Ed. Saw in the archieve
that Victor had the same problem once.

It must be some sort of 3rd party utility you guys have installed.
I've installed NiftyDrop on approx 10 newtons without any of them
having problems. Usually I just beam it over after people has seen it
and starts drooling ;) If you can help nailing it down which utility,
I'll add it to the web-page. A simple way is booting with all
packages inactive, and then just activate NiftyDrop, to see if it
works at all.

As for the memory footprint mentioned by Jim Anderson. How do I see
how much memory it consumes? So far I've tried to verify it using
"DashBoards" Heap-memory icon. However, my free heap memory goes up
with 1 k, when I switch from Extras to NiftyDrop as the BackDrop app.
