Don't cut the cable! It is very useful especially if you want to hook up your
Newton to a wireless phone or a PC. The built-in dongle is a great thing.
That cable, along with a null modem adapter, gender changer and a data cable
for your cell phone is all you need to use your cell phone as a modem. I have
done that with a Qualcomm 860. Palm makes a very inexpensive Mac serial
adapter with a male db9 on one side and a male minidin8 (mac serial) on the
other for about $6.00. Only about 6" long and works fine to connect to you
Mac serial port. Go to the Palm site. Right now they seem to be offering it
as part of a Palm Connect serial kit for $14.95. All you need is the adapter.
Used to sell it on its own. Maybe if you call them you can get it that way.
