Fortunately for you the Tibook's NIC is auto-sensing (both of speed and
connection type) so you can connect your newton directly to it with a
straight-thru or a cross-over cable. A hub connection works too.
Yes, the Newt does DHCP as well so you can be styling over your cable modem
through a hub.
