256MB CF cards have been tested with the current betas of ATA Support. I
believe (and I might just be making this up) that there is a hard OS limit
of 64MB for a single Newton store. If this is true, then it would still
be possible to partition a 256MB card into four 64MB Newton partitions.
These would all show up as separate "cards" to the OS, and the OS can
support at least four stores at a time, probably more. I personally have
done test with my 2100 where I had Internal, a linear card, and an ATA
card partitioned into two 2MB stores with no problems (the Extras ->
Memory Info slip even displayed them all fine)
