Re: [NTLK] Screen Protectors/Stylus: Good, Bad, Ugly?

After receiving my Newt back from an Apple overhaul
last year, I sent it away with a really nasty,
scratched screen. I vowed that when I got my Newt
back, I would put screen protectors on all the time.
When I saw the beauty of the unmolested screen of the
MP2000, I couldn't bear to put something over it.
Eventually, I purchased the non-adhesive screen
protectors. They were nice, but they had two problems.
One, you had to tap harder to get SoloDX to know that
you actually selected a card, and two, you had to run
the backlight all the time. I "put up" with the screen
protector for a month. I figured that either the
screen protectors are hindering my ability to view the
screen, or my eyesite is going bad. I decided to take
drastic measures and removed the screen protector. My
god...was that an improvement. I have not put them
back on since. Somewhere in my house under a stack of
papers, I have the left-overs that I will probably
never find. But I don't care...I can't live with them
obscuring the beauty of my green friend.
Of course...I admonish the screen protectors until
that fateful day arrives when for some unforseen
reason, I execute a deep gouge on my otherwise
pristine screen due to some callus miscalculation on
my part. And given that Apple is no longer repairing
these Newts, the screen you have now is likely the
only screen you will ever get. PERIOD! So. Knowing
this, I am taking extra precautions when writing on my
Newt and making sure that I do not in anyway allow my
screen to be scratched.
As to your other question about pens. Yes, the
original "Titanium" (yes, I know, they're just
aluminium, but they are "Titanium" in color) is awsome
and cool in color, but I have to put in a good word
for the PDA Panache Pen! Cheaper than the Newton pen,
it has a wonder heft and balance. Plus, you can
customize the pen as you see fit because heck, you can
always get another one! I have two Black pens. One
I've lathed and put shiney silver rings in and the
other I've left unmolested. And the orange tip is just
cool!

come and see my Newt on the web (well, mostly) at:

Note, the customization on the pens is not done by PDA
panache, but by industrious Newt owners hoping to make
themselves stand out "from the Newton crowd...as if
there is such a thing as a 'Newton crowd'"
Also note, some people on this list have had problemw
with the PDA Panache pen not fitting in the pen
holder. YMMV!
