I've had the new version of Avi's for a while - no problems noticed so far.
Do you have any extensions loaded that modify the sleep behavior perhaps ?
Have you checked for any related settings in other programs ?

IIRC one person in the past traced it to some program like SleepAid, or
Alarmed & Dangerous. It was probably neither, but something to do with the
same functionality.

Do you have persistent alarms turned on ?? That could cause weirdness under
the right circumstances.
