It sounds to me like a problem that is common in emates...

You may try just cleaning the display ribbon cable ends first. Then
trying the harder stuff if that doesn't cut it.

I'm loathe to dampen my computers any more than I have to. Bad
memories of an Apple design keyboard that took a whole pint of
Guinness and never recovered. At least it went happy...
