I've got my G4-400 AGP PowerMac communicating with my MP2100 via the
PalmConnect USB to Serial adapter just fine (it's working under Classic in
OS X).

Make sure you have the adapter plugged into a powered USB port...NOT the
keyboard port.

For whatever reason, my Palm (disconnected, now ready for sale) worked fine
through the keyboard USB port as well as a serial transfer
program...BUT...the MP2100 would not work until I plugged it into the back
of the computer itself.

Otherwise....works great!
