dear NTLK list!
one thing that really surprises me is the fact that the euro sign is not so
discussed in this forum. now that the euro is a fact, it has become as
important as the $ dollar sign for americans.
paul gyot has earlier released the euro extension, which adds a country,
"euroland" and defines a currency, euro. this information can be used with
the currency converter application, but there is still no good way to write
=E2=82=AC on the newton, either using the HWR or the external kbd. (on the mac,
shift + 4 is used to accomplish this, replacing the round sign with four
pegs.)
as i am not a programmer, so i dont have the slightest idea what it takes t=
o
add this sign to the ROM or otherwise learn the newton what the euro looks
like. i assume that the euro sign will require a re-tooling of all the font=
s
in the newton as well, but it could be well worth it, if our newtons are to
be used for years from now. the only person i know of who has changed the
ROM of the newton successfully is paul guyot, but there might be others as
well.
i hope there already exists a euro project or that there are developer who
are interested in this "update". (yvan bemelmans, eelco grimm and others
are also interested in this issue.)
