You could replace the MIC by another one. For these applications they
normally use so called Electret MICs which have some sort of electronics
built-in and require a certain drive voltage. This drive voltage (attention,
polarity matters) is supplied over the signal wires and the electrical
signal is finally superimposed on the drive voltage and decoupled at the
sound chip input by means of a capacitor. You might try at first with any
old MIC capsule from an old tape recorder. It should have only 2 connections
(the elder generation of electret MICs had 3 wires and the signal separated
from drive voltage) and you should take care of the polarity and try to
measure what's + and - as well as the voltage. Contact me privately if you
