Re: [NTLK] [OT] Dot-mac overpriced petition etc

I guess my biggest complaint is so many charges dumped on us in such a short
time period. Just upgraded to Quick Time Pro (at $29), certainly plan to pay
the upgrade cost for Mac OS 10.2 (expensive but I've heard it smokes from a
beta tester) and now that I finally have my email all going through mac.com,
another $99 a year. It makes me unlikely to put money down for new hardware
at this time, although they didn't upgrade the powerbook yet so I'm willing
to hold off on that purchase. I do like the new ipod, and would like to
trade in this 400 mhz imac for a machine that will burn DVDs.

All these recent charges suggest to me that apple is trying to make up for
some income shortfalls they expect this fall. I suspect though that the $129
price tag for OS 10.2 will be an excuse for users who have not moved to OS X
to remain in classic a little longer. That won't make the developers like
Microsoft very happy. Somewhere along the way apple needs to release a
version of OS X to all users of compatible hardware (maybe a lite version)
to get the numbers up. The schools are still in classic mode and not likely
to run to OS X even with the education pricing. I suspect graphics people
will start moving to OS X now that photoshop is available. Maybe I'll break
down and ask my college student daughter to pick up a copy of OS X 10.2 at
the college bookstore.

I'm going to hold off paying for .mac until I'm sure they won't back down on
the price (have 74 more days to obtain the reduced price). I don't want to
be like those who purchased the G3 mac several years ago and soon found out
they wouldn't be receiving the faster model they expected. Maybe if apple
included a usb writing tablet with OS 10.2 like corel is advertising with
the corel graphics update (don't ask me where I saw it, I only saw it once
in a mac mall ad). That might make the price easier to justify.
