There are three that sometimes work:
- a hard reset (a.k.a. Brain Wipe)
- running a business card around the screen cleaning out whatever is stuck
there.
- Opening your Newt and cleaning all contacts related to the touch screen.

Apparently there can be something wrong with the motherboard that causes
this (apart from the muck around the screen and the corrosion)
