As I'm inclined to disagree, let's try to sort this out...

For a start, let's assume we are talking about the time it takes to charge
a fully discharged battery pack. "Fully" means "until the Newton turned
off".

The MP2k ac adapter is a 9 watt device. It provides 7.5 volts. According
to good ol' Mr. Ohm this means that it will be able to provide a maximum
current of 9 watt / 7,5 volts = 1.2 ampere.

The cells in the original 2x00 battery pack are 1200 mAh cells. This
is good because 1200 mAh are 1.2 Ah which makes calculating the
following kind of easy. Charging a 1.2 Ah battery with 1.2 amperes will
take around 1 hour. Theoretically, in real life it'll probably a little
more.
The cells I"m currently using for rebuilding those packs are 1700 mAh,
charging those would take about 1.5 hours with a current of 1.2 amps.

So if my assumption above is correct and we *are* talking of a discharged
pack you are charging, it is definitely not normal if it only takes a couple
of minutes.
