other units only have Type II slots (hence accepting Type I and II
cards).

Were there ever any devices that only took Type I cards? Some website
said that the thickness waws 3.3 mm which is quite small (5 for type
II). I thought that the type II (form factor of the Newton slot) was
the smallest there was.
