My guess would be that these are visible light fringes due to a very thin
layer of something on the screen. The list archives (and almost certainly,
the FAQ) are full of suggestions of what the best substance is to clean a
Newt's screen. Either the screen protector's material, after a long period,
emits some sort of degradation product (possibly due to UV light exposure)
in minute amounts... or the screen wasn't 100% clean when the protector was
put on. Was this interference pattern present BEFORE you removed the
protector? Not that it really matters, just clean the screen to get rid of
it, but I'm just curious.
