Actually, this is an interference pattern called, interestingly, "Newton's
Rings". There has been quite a bit of discussion on this phenomena on the
Newton screen over the years. They are not oil, nothing's leaking, they
cannot be cleaned off, and are due to a misalignment of materials in the
screen composition, indicative of damage to the screen. Rough handling (and
florescent lighting) makes it worse. Can only be resolved by screen
replacement. Check the archives for "Newton's Rings".

If it's like my ump2000, it is caused by contact between the actual LCD
glass and the protective writing surface that 'floats' above it. I'm not
sure if there is some sort of fluid in between the two, but that's the look
of it, oily and rainbowy (is that a word?).
Cleaning my screen does nothing to counteract this, and the better the
lighting in the room, the less noticeable the phenomenon...
