From what I read, it seems that Classic is bound to the services that OS X
provides. If it doesn't provide serial, than Classic apps cannot use it.
I've read contradictory statements, some saying that on a machine with real
serial ports, serial was available, while others posted that OS X didn't
have any support for serial (unless you use some USB-to-serial adapter)...
