Historically, email is a 7-bit medium, so mechanisms were devised to
transmit 8-bit data using only 7-bit ASCII characters. Your email client
is using the quoted-printable encoding mechanism, which replaces certain
chracters with an equals sign, followed by the hexidecimal value of
encoded character. Quoted printable encoding will encode not only 8-bit
characters, but also the equals sign itself, and line ending spaces,
which might otherwise get mangled in transit.

Normally, this encoding is undone by the client, but there is a bug in
the version of the mailing list software used by Newtontalk that causes
quoted-printable emails to be transmitted as is, but without the headers
that would notiy the recipient to decode the message.

As a work around, you might try to configure your email client to send
8-bit data instead of quoted-printable, since nearly all mail systems
can handle 8-bit data directly these days.
