That is for a combined RAM and Flash storage board that is now very hard to
find. It helps in providing extra heap space especially for communications
packages.

Well, you can connect to an AppleTalk network with a hardware bridge like
the Farallon iPrint from either of the serial ports and leave a memory card
in the slot or just use a serial connection.
