What are you running on the NT box? RAS? Are you using the NT RAS extention
on the Newton?

This seems to indicate that the Newton isn't getting a response.

Your SMTP and POP servers are the names of the computers that provide those
services. Computers that listen for connections to services are called
"servers" or "hosts". Your Newton just needs the name of the POP server and
SMTP server that your ISP gave you, in order to know where to get/send mail.
This info goes in your SimpleMail setup in your card in Owner's Info.

To make a connection to the internet first, though, you need to know your
gateway (which will be the IP address of the Desktop's side of the serial
connection), DNS servers (from your ISP, I think, depending on how you set up
RAS on the NT box), and what IP address the Newton should use, or if it should
find out when it connects. This info goes into a connection profile in
Internet Setup.

Have you checked that you have the NIE Modem & Serial module installed?
