In fact, it's 12 MB. It's a rather common extension of the Newton,
with 8 MB of flash on the ROM Board. The NewtonOS cannot handle more
in its current state.
The NewtonOS doesn't tell you but it reserves a lot of space for the
store engine. If you sum up the used and the available space, you
don't get the full size of the card/internal memory.
ATA Support does the same, but it tells you, i.e. this data is
counted as "used space".
