Tried something different.

I made sure the Mac side records are the ones I want. I then wiped
Names in the Newt clean and then did the sync (use the Mac entry in
prefs). Success! No hangs.
Made some changes on the Mac side and resynced... OK.
Now I will use the Newt entry pref and see what happens.
