And if someone is concerned about this, there's an easy solution with
the Newton, assuming one has a big enough Flash RAM card: make a
backup of the built-in memory onto the Flash RAM card, then pop the
card out and carry it with you separate from the Newton. Go ahead and
put the Newton through the X-ray machine, and put the RAM card in the
little tray with your wallet and keys as you pass through the metal
detector.
I've done this with a Handspring Visor (after 9/11) that I generally
carry in my jacket pocket when travelling. Security doesn't bat an
eye at the entire Visor being placed in the key/wallet tray. I doubt
they'll question a RAM card.
