The problem is that if a work unit takes over one week to complete, it is
considered invalid and reassigned. For comparison, the Macintosh 6100 can
complete a unit in just under one week.
I don't know if it has changed, but there were stories for a while to the
effect that the SETI_at_Home code is actually somewhat inefficient, but that
S_at_H has actually blocked attempts to optimize it.
Personally, I suspect a distributed.net client would be almost as fun and a
lot more doable.
