Doesn't this error refer to heap, not storage memory? I had this error
recently (couldn't even open Extras drawer), and it was definitely lack of
heap -- I had lots of storage available, but only around 50-60K of heap.
Rebooting didn't help. For some reason it was cured only when I deleted a
couple of extra fonts I had installed (Courier & something else, I forget).
I have no idea why that worked or how the fonts could have been causing the
problem. Haven't tried putting them back to see what happens. (Due to
total absence of spare time.) Anyway, FWIW ... Check your heap; maybe
something similar is going on.
