I had the same problem until I turned on the sound effects in the system
Prefs. Don't know why, but both those apps want the sound effects turned
on.

However, I was shocked to discover that Guitar Tuner is not exactly in
concert pitch on my machine. (I can't remember anymore if it was sharp or
flat - it was 2 days ago!) That made it totally useless for my purpose,
which was as a pitch reference. I haven't investigated the problem because
then I tried NewtChorder and it seems perfectly in tune. It isn't primarily
meant as a tuner, but because it plays any fingering combination that you
tap onto its virtual fretboard, you can use it as a tuner - even chromatic.

I've only tried BeatIt for a few minutes, but it seems to stutter sometimes
on my MP2100. I love the function where you can tap on it and it tells you
your tempo, but I'm not sure yet how accurately that works.

There is a MIDI sequencer for the Newton but I haven't tried it out. It's
on UNNA somewhere.
