Yes, you use Newton Connection Utilities to connect to your Newton from your
PC using the serial cable that I think you mentioned you have, and then just
upload those packages to your Newton. Read the instructions again from
<http://www.chuma.org/newton/ethernet/>. Make sure that *all* packages from
Newton Internet Enabler and the needed drivers are installed on the same
store, preferably in the internal memory.

However, I doubt that you will be able to use the card you have. Each model
of card as a unique ID and the driver on the Newton will recognize only
those IDs that it was built to recognize. You need a perfect match or the
driver won't report to the OS that it recognizes said card and you will get
an error message saying: "There is a problem with this card. Newton cannot
recognizes this card.". Sometimes, the ID string returned by a given
revision of a specific model will change when a new revision is introduced.
You could always try to contact the guy that did write most of the Ethernet
drivers for the Newton. Check his web site at
<http://www.ff.iij4u.or.jp/~ngc/eng/newte.htm>.

And yes, I think some people reported NCU working fine with XP.

Gates's Law: "The speed of software halves every 18 months." This oft-cited
law is an ironic comment on the tendency of software bloat to outpace the
every-18-month doubling in hardware capacity per dollar predicted by Moore's
Law. The reference is to Bill Gates; Microsoft is widely considered among
the worst if not the worst of the perpetrators of bloat.
