Sounds like a system soup problem. I guess you could try to use a soup
editor to remove as many entries from the system soup as you can, to
increase your chances of backing up...

Any good suggestions for a soup editor? I'm new to fiddling this way with
the Newt...I didn;t see much in the FAQ...
