Oh. Duh. Why did I think that the eMate had 2 MBs of DRAM? This is one of
those mistakes that I was talking about.
I would love to see the pinout of the chips. If we could figure that out,
then we could either find a chip that was pin compatible or re-design the
board slightly.
I wonder what the max FLASH is. That could be interesting. eMate owners
that I know are always complaining about the lack of storage. They can only
use either a storage card or a modem (or whatever), so they can't have tons
of storage while browsing the web. I'm perfectly satisfied with 8 MB (4
internal, 4 on a CF card (Thanks Paul!)), but the eMate only has 2.
As for the expense, I was only considering the expense of the board. Since
I thought that eMates had 2 MB of DRAM, I thought that the chips could be
pulled from a broken eMate. Well, I was wrong, which means that the RAM
chips are the most critical component here.
I wonder what the max FLASH memory in an eMate is. It would be rather
interesting to have one with 32 MB of internal storage.
