We had this discussion on another list. According to the articles in
FORTUNE, the record labels have signed a one-year agreement with Apple
that's strictly limited to the US. (I *think* even Canada is excluded.)
So this appears to be a sort of extended trial.
Add to that, different copyright terms and licenses apply in different
countries, a complexity Apple (and/or the record labels) probably
didn't want to get into just yet.
