If you took a photo of the affected area of the board and posted it on a

website somewhere, it might help some of us to diagnose what fried...

And it does sound like something is fried. The 'cube' on your
motherboard
likely sacrificed itself for the rest of the components. That the unit
still
powers on at all is quite a miracle :)

If you can't get it to boot (ie. doesn't start to activate packages on
the
Internal store at all) then you can't get your data off of it.

You could get someone to swap the motherboard, or something like that.
I'm
sure the repair folk will chime in sooner or later :) If the rest of
the
parts are good then you might be able to trade it plus some cash to
someone
for a working 2100.
