[NTLK] no sound

Have a situation here, wondering if any thoughts.
I have a MP2000 upgrade that has lost its sound function. I don't recall any
new packages recently that might have caused some sort of conflict, but just
to be sure I backed up everything, did a hard reset and tried the Newt
without anything but the factory load. Still no sound. Is hardware failure
pretty much the only explanation?
