not sure if this is the correct terminology. basically, you click on a
URL, and instead of contacting the host directly, Newt's Cape contacts
an intermediary server (or proxy) to handle the request. this can be a
mail-based service (like www4mail.org) or http: proxy.

here's some info about setting it up; for mail, you need to provide a
message pattern so that Newt's Cape knows how to format the URL into
the message subject or body.

Newt's Cape can read HTML from messages in Inbox. File: Open Inbox.
on 2.x Newtons, it might be able to read GIF or JPEG files, though this
depends on how they're encoded/stored by the email client so that
Newt's Cape can then find them (as I recall, the last time I had
tested, it worked with SimpleMail; not sure about other clients).

yep, Notepad rather limited. btw, if you do have HTML pages in Notepad
that you've created yourself or stored from email, you can read them
into Newt's Cape via File: Open Notes

if the email message (e.g., HTML page) gets split into multiple parts
because of size, Newt's Cape _may_ be able to chain the pieces
together. at least this worked at one time with Aloha.

my docs indicate that it was no longer available a few years ago.

I don't think Sloup ever supported modem access, just regular serial
(and sometimes ADSP/AppleTalk). it was also possible to download data
via TCP by using Sloup as a plugin for Newt's Cape. but Sloup really
wasn't complete enough to handle real backup or sync -- you'd be better
off with some of the other data transfer tools.
