Well, MoreInfo will make meetings connected to whoever you have selected in Names so that might save you a step. I am a big MoreInfo fan, there is a demo posted on UNNA.org.
Not to quote the obvious but another idea would be to just write meeting with Bob Smith and hit assist ... once you learn the syntax you can set the time and most everything just from writing it in. That could just be done from the NotePad.
