You choose AppleTalk in the Dock application and then you select
"choose computer -> other" or something like this. This is an
AppleTalk browser for computers running Dock-compatible services. If
Escale is running on your Mac, you'll see your Mac in there.

This is an old bug that was fixed eons ago (although it is in 1.0.1
because we didn't release a new version since) in the Dock TCP/IP
module.
Get the 1.1 dock module here:

You only choose on the Newton in the Dock application.
Escale is a server and it listens on everything it can unless you
disable interfaces in its preferences. By default it will listen on:
- the first available serial port
- AppleTalk if enabled
- all TCP/IP interface

No, it should not.
Only your Newton should see your Mac.

Or rather something with your setup on your Newton ...

I don't think you can do WEP during the trial period.

So this should be the origin of your problems. Turn WEP off and it
should work. I won't say it does here but it does work here (I don't
have WEP on). Actually, TCP/IP works, because of a bug between
NewtonOS' AppleTalk stack, Airport Extreme Base Stations and MacOS X,
a bug that probably will never be fixed by Apple even if I filed it.
But AppleTalk works at Nicolas who doesn't have an AEBS (AEBS stands
for Airport Extreme Base Station, don't need to Google ;) and
probably at other's people.

This is about connecting. I know there are problems once you are
connected, especially with synchronization which is more or less
broken in 1.0.1 and worse in recent nightlies. It worked at some
point (in archived nightlies), but I don't recall when exactly,
simply before we started implementing synchronization of notes
(currently, Escale tries to synchronize notes and since this isn't
finished, it crashes, and therefore it doesn't try to synchronize
your address book).

Indeed, Escale is a server, if you enable the firewall, you need to
let your Newton connect to your Mac by enabling connections on port
3679.
