This sounds fair to me. I use Newtons for very specialised purposes - for
cognitive testing and for administering questionnaires (www.penscreen.com).
They are excellent for this, but for my own appointments diary and address
book I use an iPaq (ducks to avoid the green bricks aimed at his head...).
Most of the money Apple made from the Newton was in the vertical markets -
healthcare, sales force automation and so on. This is where the well-used
Newtons that have been flooding eBay in the last year or so come from. They
did their job perfectly well for four years, now they are being replaced,
and the replacement is probably something you will never see on the consumer
market.
