I am not mistaken!

In the MAC Hardware section of our Asante Router the Proxim 802.11 PC
card shows up with a MAC address of 0000C509A220 when used with the
3400 laptop, and 0050E4C5DA12 when used with the Newton.

The 0000C509A220 number is the number listed on the back of the PC card.

As I said earlier, I discovered this by accident.

I was trying to get the Proxim card working with the Newton using
Hiroshi's WaveLAN driver. However, I had something screwed up in the
settings. The Newton "seemed" to be connecting to the router, but
would not download email or connect to the internet. I thought the
situation was hopeless and had given up on trying to get it to work.
It was not until I went into the router to reset the MAC addresses to
exclude everything except our two laptops, that I noticed that a third
number was now showing up. That third number proved to be the Newton
with the Proxim card installed.

The Newton now connects flawlessly with the 0050E4C5DA12 address.
(after I changed some setting in my Worksite).

As a test, I just tried putting the Proxim card in my Lombard G3 to see
if I would get yet another MAC address. I do not.

Conclusion, for whatever reason, our Asante router recognized the
differences between the 3400 laptop and the Newton. But, not the
differences between the 3400 laptop and the Lombard laptop. It gave
the Newton a new MAC address, but not the Lombard.

Even more curious! I really don't know why it works this way, but it
definitely does.
