Hi Frank. Thanks for your descriptions and pictures. It's always exciting
to see pieces of Newton history!

    I think I have some answers.
   When apple was designing the MP2000, codename "Q" ("Q flash board"!),
the engineers created two machines, one with the ARM710a and one with the
SA110. This was done because the StrongArm was not finished yet and they
had to meet the deadlines, no matter what CPU.
  That explains why the Emate boots with the card, but the display is
incorrect.

   The ROM programming and testing was done directly on actual units, not in
NuBus cards as with previous models. Suposedly the ROM was programmed via
the included GeoPort. Looks like the card is that, a testing board.

  As i see from your pictures, there are chips for 8 MBytes, but the total
could be 16 Mbytes!
