Listening to 'localhost' isn't going to work. 127.0.0.1 is an interface f=
or=20
programs talking to each other on the same machine, but not to anything=20
external. You have to make it listen to the 'real' IP address of your=20
machine.
To find out what that is, open a Terminal session and type in:
ifconfig
this will list all your network interfaces. You should have an interface=20
called eth0 (I think that's what it's called - I'm not on my Mac and can'=
t=20
check it right now) which has an IP address. If you're doing this at home=
,=20
you're likely to have something like 192.168.0.something. Use this in nSy=
nc.
On the Newton side, you have to use Internet Setup and give it an IP addr=
ess=20
which matches the range you have on your mac.
Say you have 192.168.0.10 on the Mac with a subnetmask of 255.255.255.0, =
you=20
could try to use 192.168.0.11 on the Newton.
To find out if that IP address is available, try to ping it from the Term=
inal=20
window before you set it up on the Newton:
ping 192.168.0.11
If it send you a reply, this IP address is in use, and you need to try=20
another. If you're doing this at home, you usually know which IP addresse=
s=20
are in use and which aren't. If you have a cable/dsl router with DHCP=20
capabilities, you might want to use that, saves you the hassles of having=
to=20
do this stuff manually.
If you're at work, ask some of your system guys for an IP address or if y=
ou=20
should use DHCP.
Best regards,
Chris
