Which version if NIE are you using?
In my generic setup (with NIE 2.0) I give it a name, choose 'DHCP server' as
the 'Configuration' and than I have to choose 'Card' which gives me a popup
menu so I can choose my card.
Doesn't sound like your setup at all, and I don't like the fact that you're
choosing: "connect using" ethernet
